Safety Plan for People Fleeing Domestic Violence with Their Pets
Since October 2023, WFA has been raising awareness regarding the housing crisis and pets. Unfortunately, the housing crisis has left many victims of domestic violence trapped- as they have nowhere else to go. It is not just a crisis for housing but for those living in abuse.
As many as 65% of domestic violence victims are unable to leave their abusive partners as they are worried about what will happen to their pets. Pets, along with the housing crisis, are a barrier for many to leave abusive situations.
We created a FREE resource - a safety plan for anyone suffering from domestic violence who has pets as well as non-profits in Alberta to provide some guidance in this difficult situation.
